This is the Camry of sports cars, right?

I can’t believe people still flip out when they see one. Honestly, they’re everywhere. I probably see one a week, and I don’t live in the Hamptons, not even close. Yes, it can do great things, kind of like a Camry Hybrid getting great gas milage. Yah, it does that, but ehh, it’s pretty boring.

The world would be far more interesting if all Camrys were replaced by GT-Rs.

Eh, I was never really keen on the styling and to me the 32s, 33s, and 34 will always be the “cooler” models but to compare it to a Camry, or to call it boring? Heh, tell me a bit about the exciting car you drive you’ve piqued my interest :)

Well for me it is maybe a once every 3 month thing. Living in the county means you don’t always see exotics or Corvettes. Corvettes are maybe a once a week thing for me.

I get that, and when it came out it was pretty neat. But, it’s 8 years old. Not saying it’s irrelevant, but ehh, I’m just tired of it. It’s at every car show. They’re all over. Yet, people still freak out when they see one. I can’t tell people what to like, but I think it is definitely overrated.

Depends on where you live I guess. I can’t remember the last time I saw one, it must have been years ago. A car like the Porsche 911 is really quite plentiful here though.

True. Again, I can’t tell people what to like, but when a GTR is next to a 1959 fuelie Corvette and an Amphicar, and the ladder two get no love, I have to wonder.

Replace the Toyota “appliance of its class” Camry with the Nissan “appliance of its class” GTR? Both are the lamest cars in their segments.

I see more Corvettes, Porsches and TVRs than I do GTRs which is odd since it sold pretty well in the UK.

I get why people still turn their heads though. They see the Nissan badge and then the halo car effect kicks in that the loud, quad pipe, big brakes, Ferrari slayer is made by the same people who built their Juke.

Plus the GTR is pretty big and big cars do seem to get attention when they aren’t SUVs.

Easy to dismiss the car if you haven’t driven one. It’s mental and a thrill ride and I did 250 miles on NorCal backroads to prove it.

Given the $change necessary to buy, I would still pick a 911 or Cayman as I want more driver involvement and a smaller platform. If you grow up in the tuner community, its a bigger more potent animal to modify to not end.

I live in northern Quebec, and here there are 2 GTR’s and one is even run all year long. One stingray, and many older vettes. I still double take for all of them.

Having gotten to actually drive one on a track at full tilt, no. It is very, very far from boring. I had a lot more fun in the GTR than I did in the 458.

I also think they look incredible, but I’m probably in the minority on that. Also, I see one maybe once a year.

Kinja'd!!!0

I kind of think faster and more reliable could be relative. Yes, on paper they are faster, but it’s a more numb driving experience. And, reliability is interesting. Yes, they are more reliable, but I don’t see these cars lasting as long as their predecessors.

Kinja'd!!! DoYouEvenShift > Chuck 2(O=[][]=O)2

Kinja'd!!!0

Honestly, I know very little about GTRs other than they get shit done. But it feels like playing a video game.

Really I was talking about performance cars on general. A 4100 pound Camaro can lap the Nring in 7:41. A Camaro! How awesome is that. Afterwards you can drive it to work all week.

I guess well see about the reliability thing, but ones things for sure. People are pushing them harder than ever before.

How is that rekt? He drives a car that a ‘93 corolla would trounce in almost any contest of speed. I’m sure it’s a fun car though not quite my cup of tea :) The only thing exciting to me about that car would be keeping it alive, and maintained.

Kinja'd!!! Street Surgeon > Chuck 2(O=[][]=O)2
07/14/2015 at 23:19

Kinja'd!!!0

My response is you definitely have a cool car, but not one that I would consider exciting by any means. Well, I suppose I’d be excited to keep it maintained and alive but certainly not from a performance perspective. I personally don’t get the huge circle-jerk following the R35 has but if you’ve ever taken one out on a trackday you would instantly know it’s a freakin’ blast to drive. Of course, you might hate the speed, the power, the refinement, etc. Many do and choose to drive fun albeit slower, much, much slower cars.

Of course, this is just your own opinion and I can’t force you into thinking that driving an R35 is “fun” but if you haven’t driven one in haste around a track your opinion is one that has no merit.

Isn’t the Porsche 911 a sports car, too?

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

OK, so these particular 911’s are special ones, but much as the basic design is still very much radical, the 911 has become a regular sports car, too.

But either way, I don’t deride either car, 911 or R35, as boring. Boring to look at, sure, and merely scores par for the tiers they’re on, but they give you the fizz when driven and hard.

Completely agree. The GTR is all over around here.... and I still think it looks boring. The only thing I kind of enjoy about them, is seeing them broken down by the side of the road...(at least one every week or so). Maybe I’m a little mean, but I get a chuckle out of that. I do stop to help or see if they are okay, so I’m not a complete dick.

See em about twice a month on the average...they are just frikkin cool cars, but there is lots of cool stuff in NoVA. Even more so when i lived in LA.

Whats really cool is seeing something like this when its totally unexpected. Like when I saw a skyline gt33, c-5 corvette, viper, and 2009 Mustang GT parked outside a party in Islamabad,,,
